Primary Eyecare Services provides NHS funded eye care services across large parts of England. The services are available from the majority of local opticians (also known as optometrists), from the smallest independent practice to the largest national chains.

Urgent eyecare service

Community Urgent Eyecare Service

The Community Urgent Eyecare Service (CUES) provides urgent assessment, treatment or referral for sudden onset eye problems such as flashes, floaters, vision loss or minor eye injuries.

MECS eye

Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS)

The Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS) provides assessment and treatment for people with recently occurring minor eye problems. It is an NHS service provided by accredited optometrists (also commonly called opticians).

Learning disability eye test

The Easy Eye Care Learning Disability Service

The Easy Eye Care service is for adults and children with moderate to severe learning disabilities and/or autism who need more time or extra support when having an eye health check and sight examination.

Cataract slit lamp

Pre- and Post-operative Cataract Services

This service is for people who are considering having surgery to remove cataracts, and people who have had cataract surgery, to provide post-operative care.
